Participation in the international symposium Carnivals and evolution, Binche, Belgium

Binche

On March 15 and 16, an international symposium entitled: Carnivals and Evolution took place in the Belgian carnival town of Binche. The symposium was attended by Adela Pukl, Anja Jerin, Miha Špiček and Blaž Verbič.

In the Binche International Museum of Carnivals and Masks, SEM curators took part in a symposium, visited the museum and their exhibitions. On special request, they visited the museum depots, where they keep the masks of Slovenian traditional carnival characters (škoromati from Hrušica, kurent, laufarji from Cerkno, etc.), whose door-to-door rounds are also listed in the Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Slovenia.

On Saturday afternoon, they took part in the procession of the Caretos, a traditional carnival group from Portugal, whose winter celebrations are inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
