The Škofja Loka Passion Play – first element of the intangible cultural heritage of Slovenia inscribed to the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity

On the 1th of December 2016 the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage adopted a decision to inscribe the Škofja Loka Passion Play to  the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The Škofja Loka Passion Play is a penitential passion procession based on the text by the Capuchin monk Romuald Marušič from 1721, which is staged at Easter time in the town of Škofja Loka. This element of the intangible cultural heritage was listed in the Register of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Slovenia in 2008 and in 2012 declared to be intangible cultural heritage of special national significance.
