Four new elements inscribed in the Register of the Intangible Cultural Heritage
The Ministry of Culture has inscribed four new elements in the Register of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, following proposals submitted by the Coordinator for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage: Koline, Easter rattling in Tržič in Tržič, Alpinism, and Mountain culture.
The Register now includes a total of 144 elements and 423 registered bearers of intangible cultural heritage.
Koline
Koline are a winter family and community tradition associated with pig slaughter and the processing of pork into various meat products and dishes. Combining work practices, culinary knowledge, customs, and traditions, they form an important part of Slovenia’s food culture and social life.
The bearers are not evidented with the unit.
Easter rattling in Tržič
From Holy Thursday to Holy Saturday, when the church bells are silent, rattles can be heard instead in Tržič. As they parade through the town’s streets, the rattlers spin their rattles, using the sound to announce the suffering and death of Jesus Christ.
One bearer is registered for this element: Tržič Parish.
Alpinism
Alpinism is a mountain activity that combines climbing, movement over demanding terrain, snow‑and‑ice ascents, and alpine skiing. It is founded on knowledge of the mountain environment, technical skills, experience, ethics, and camaraderie in overcoming the challenges of the high mountain world.
One bearer is registered for this element: the Alpine Association of Slovenia.
Mountaineering
Mountaineering is a body of knowledge, values, practices and organisational forms related to visiting the mountains, mountaineering education, trail maintenance, and the operation of mountaineering societies and mountain huts. It contributes to the safeguarding of traditions, the transfer of knowledge and skills for safe movement in the mountains, and a responsible attitude towards the mountain environment.
One bearer is registered for this element: the Alpine Association of Slovenia.
Submission of initiatives
Initiatives to be considered in the next evaluation round may be submitted to the Coordinator for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage by 15 September 2026. Initiatives for the registration of new bearers of elements already inscribed in the Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage may be submitted at any time during the year.
