The Making of pletenice element was inscribed in the Register of the Intangible Cultural Heritage as the 12th element of the intangible cultural heritage.
Pletenice are braided breads of various shapes made from better leavened dough, which are prepared according to regional recipes in most parts of Slovenia. They are baked on major calendar and personal holidays, at the end of work, nowadays they are also part of ceremonial feasts and catering and tourist offers.
Currently one bearer is identified within the element: Društvo kmetic Brežice.
Društvo kmetic Brežice was founded in 1976 and today unites more than 200 members from different places. The association has 15 active women farmers who work in all 20 local communities of the Municipality of Brežice.
The Society works in the fields of agriculture, education, training, tourism and tourism development and organizes various lectures, courses, excursions and events. The members of the society come together in the desire to acquire new knowledge and transfer traditional knowledge, safeguard and revive rural heritage, especially e.g. culinary heritage and handicrafts. They actively participate in the local, regional and wider space and take care of the promotion of the local culinary heritage
The society organizes exhibitions and fairs, and its members participate in many events with homemade delicacies.
In 2016, when the society celebrated its 40th anniversary, they published a bulletin on the organized activities of farm wives, and on this occasion the society also received recognition from the Municipality of Brežice. For many years of successful work and contribution to the recognition of the Municipality of Brežica, the members received recognition in 2021 as well.
The Register currently includes 120 registered elements and 363 bearers of the intangible cultural heritage.
