In the hall of the National Gallery in Ljubljana, on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia with partners, a ceremony was held to award the certificate for the inscription of midwifery on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The multinational nomination Midwifery: knowledge, skills and practices was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List on December 6, 2024.
The certificate was handed over to the representatives of the Chamber of Health and Midwifery of Slovenia - the Association of Professional Associations of Nurses, Midwives and Medical Technicians of Slovenia and the Association Natural Beginnings by the Minister of Culture Dr. Asta Vrečko. The general director of the Directorate for Cultural Heritage, Špela Spanžel, addressed the gathered, and the keynote speakers were the Minister of Culture, dr. Asta Vrečko and the Minister of Health Dr. Valentina Prevolnik Rupel.
Director Natalija Polenec, Nadja Valentinčič Furlan, Nena Židov and Anja Jerin attended the ceremony as representatives of the Slovene Ethnographic Museum, which performs the duties of the national Coordinator for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
