The Shrovetide custom in Ponikve

The Ponikve mačkare represent a Shrovetide carnival custom with elements of theatre in Ponikve in Dobrepolje. On Shrove Tuesday the community of young men go from door to door collecting and put on a humorous programme, an evening dance around the houses and a party, and on Ash Wednesday the burning of a carnival figure.
