Two new units of intangible cultural heritage added to the Register

logotipTwo new units have been inscribed into the Register of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, which is maintained by the Ministry of Culture, Guild Associations in Turnišče and Blessing of Horses on St. Stephen's Day.


The initiative to enter guild associations in Turnišče and its surroundings was forwarded to the Slovene Ethnographic Museum / Coordinator for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Municipality of Turnišče.

The shoemakers', blacksmiths' and tailors' guild associations operate in Turnišče, which preserve the memory of guilds as associations of craftsmen through their activities. From the former tasks of the guilds, members maintain mutual assistance and participate in church ceremonies.

One bearer is currently registered with the unit: the Blacksmiths' Guild.


The initiative to inscribe the blessing of horses on St. Stephen's Day was received by the Slovene Ethnographic Museum / Coordinator for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage from the Gornjesavski muzej Jesenice.

On the feast of St. Stephen (26 December), who is considered the patron saint of livestock, especially horses, in many places priests bless horses, which is believed to protect them from illness and injury.

There is currently one bearer registered with the unit: the Informal Village Community Blejska Dobrava.


There are currently 128 units and 384 bearers of intangible cultural heritage registered in the Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The next deadline for submitting initiatives for registration in the Register of the Intangible Cultural Heritage is 15 May 2025.
