The cultural holiday (February 8, 2025) was once again carnival-themed at SEM. For the seventh year in a row, the Slovene Ethnographic Museum, as the Coordinator for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, has prepared an exhibition about carnival customs and carnival characters – this year on the theme of Pust Mozirski.
Pust Mozirski is the collective name for the carnival group of Mozirski carnivalists and carnival customs, which take place in Mozirje in the Savinja Valley every year from Maundy Thursday to Ash Wednesday. The custom was inscribed into the Register of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2017.
The Slovene Ethnographic Museum will be displaying this exhibition until March 16, 2025, items from the Mozirje carnival that the museum purchased for its collection last year: a carnival costume, a drum from the Boj se ga orchestra, a social bandera, and a large sieve through which the juicy details of prominent citizens are "sifted". In addition to the carnival custom in modern times, the exhibition also features several photographs that present the activities of the carnival group in the past.
