Šelmarija is a Shrovetide event characteristic of Kostanjevica na Krki that takes place between Shrove Sunday and Ash Wednesday. All the carnival characters, known as šelmarji, are members of the Prforcenhaus Carnival Association, whilst the symbol of Shrovetide is a metal head called Šelma.

The bearer of the element of the intangible cultural heritage is the Ethnological Society Prforcenhaus.
